Figura Avulsa is pleased to host Vuduvum Vadavã aka Marta (Von Calhau!) performing Alison Knowles’ bean turner on Sunday, June 16, 2024, 6pm. This is a one-time event of unknown duration.

Alison Knowles is a North American historical Fluxus artist living in New York City, known for her work with sound, alternative instruments, or daily task instructions turn performances. Her bean turner (one of several), made of flax paper and dried beans, of which we can only hear a subtle roaring sound like in a rain-stick, will be performed by Vuduvum Vadavã and was kindly lent by João Simões.

Vuduvum Vadavã born in Porto is Marta Ângela, half of the duo Von Calhau!. Her passion lies in the absurd, the wild and primitive state of language, from the pre-verbal to the palindrome and other elaborate word games. In the visual and non-visual arts, singing/voice, performance, circuit-bending or as a DJ, Vuduvum experiments with noise and silence in a drift driven by the unknown.
